NEWCASTLE SEDIS - Staffordshire Enhanced Inclusion Support Model - WHAT IS SEDIS?

WHAT IS SEDIS?

The Staffordshire Enhanced District Inclusion Support Model (SEDIS) is designed to empower mainstream schools to address the needs of children and young people facing learning barriers and to support inclusion. SEDIS teams will work to enhance the capacity and confidence of district schools, while also promoting the sharing of best evidence- based practices. As part of Staffordshire's pre-statutory graduated approach to supporting special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and inclusion in mainstream settings, SEDIS will be available as an option during the 'Do' phase of the Enhanced Assess, Plan, Do, Review (EAPDR) Pathway. This support can be considered and agreed upon if the child or young person is on the EAPDR Pathway.

The primary goal of all SEDIS activities is to enhance the learning environment around the child, thereby improving their learning and inclusion experience. Importantly, a child or young person does not need a diagnosis or label for their school to access SEDIS support. It is important to note that this is pre EHCP support and any child in receipt of an EHCP would not be suitable for SEDIS support.

Developing the settings capacity to meet needs Weekly visits and support discussions Modelling strategies in the host school or SEDIS provision Supporting parental discussions and expectations CPD on specific strategies Creating appropriate support packages Short stay away from host school CPD for host school staff, on site at SEDIS Developing effective strategies which can be implemented in host school Supporting parental discussions and expectations KIT meetings to discuss next steps and progress Diagnostic assessments

SO, HOW CAN WE HELP?

It is important to note, that when accessing support from our SEDIS provision, we
will work closely with the host school in a variety of ways.

Initially, the discussion about a child accessing SEDIS should be directed through
the SEND and Inclusion Hub. The child must have gone through at least 2 cycles of
APDR in order to be on an ENHANCED pathway. When a child is on the enhanced
pathway, the SEND hub can commission our support through SEDIS.

Once support has been commissioned, Newcastle SEDIS will contact the host
school and ask you to sign a contract. The support cannot begin unless this
contract is signed.

A baseline assessment of the pupil will be carried out, using the SEDIS
assessment tool, and a follow up discussion with the host school will be held.
At this meeting, we will discuss next steps and levels of support required.
There will be an agreed strategy at this point .

We are committed to at least 2-3 sessions a week of outreach and this will be for a
minimum of 2 hours. During this time we will implement agreed strategies.

These strategies will be mindful of the school capacity, the needs of the child,
familial factors and the resources available. We will produce a recommendations
report and hold regular KIT discussions on how we think the child is progressing.

As the sessions progress, host schools may wish to receive CPD in a particular area
or arrange visits to our setting as part of a CPD package.

Please note, SEDIS support is commissioned through the Newcastle SEND Hub and by contacting the SEDIS team directly for support, you will be signposted to the Hub.
