A Tiny Seed

Our final week exploring our 'To Grow or Not to Grow' topic has seen us explore themes involving growing plants, plant parts and life cycles. We have read the story 'A Tiny Seed' to gin and understanding of where plants come from and how they can grow. We discussed the different parts of a plant and even had a god at writing some labels with support of talking tins. The children have done amazingly this week to develop writing skills.

We have also been working hard to develop maths skills by matching quantities to numerals and explored some more subitising and counting skills when sieving seeds from the sand tray. They children have also been learning more about mini beasts and made some wonderful representations in the playdough and painting areas.

On Wednesday, we played several games of hide and seek where children were given verbal clues with positional language to help them find hidden mini beasts. We used blind folds so there was no cheating which really helped children show they understand the language that was given to them.

The children have had a great half term learning all about growing and we will be using this knowledge to plant seeds after the Easter break. Fingers crossed we have a few green thumbs.
