Bright Stanley

Exploring the story 'Bright Stanley' gave us a great opportunity to build upon children's knowledge of sea creatures and explore new themes such a light, shadows and emotions.

The children have really enjoyed pretending to be scuba divers to find sea creatures around they room. They have been touch counting carefully to see how many of each creature they could see and have had a go at tallying the corresponding amount and even tried to write some of the numerals. All of them have worked so hard to develop their mathematic skills.

We have also enjoying making representations of fish, including glitter in our work to make the fish sparkle light Bright Stanley. The children have also enjoyed fishing for numbered fish, drawing with light boxes to trace around sea creatures and build boats with construction pieces.

On Welly Wednesday, we explored how we could move like different sea creatures, including: sharks, jellyfish, starfish, turtles, whales and dolphins. We then played listening games where children had to wait for the shark to appear and stand as still as possible so they wouldn't get eaten.

The children have really enjoyed the theme of 'under the sea' and particularly enjoy their cosmic yoga session focusing on dolphins and pirates.
