We have begun our 'To Grow or Not to Grow' topic by looking at healthy eating and vegetables. We have used to story of 'Oliver's Vegetables' to help identify different vegetables and talk about the importance of eating healthily.
The children have developed their knowledge of vegetables by making plates of healthy food with playdough and helped to sort items of food into fruits or vegetables. Children have had plenty of opportunities to develop their mathematical skills by planting carrots in numicon shapes and using accurate counting and vocabulary of "greater, bigger and smaller" when talking about the size of numbers. Children have also been matching quantities to numerals or amounts when helping to plat carrots in Grandpa's garden. We have also looked at capacity when making vegetables soup in the water tray and helped to sort different vegetables by their initial sound.
We also had great fun celebrating World Book Day this week. It was a great opportunity to share stories and discuss which character we love.
