It's been an eventful week in the Nursery classroom this week as we have been exploring the story of the Gruffalo. The children have been practicing careful counting all week in preparation of preparing lunch for the Gruffalo. On Wednesday, we went out onto the field and bumped into all the animals from the story. They were too scared to to meet the Gruffalo but they did say we could take a few things with us to feed him. The children counted out 3 bugs, 2 apples and 4 leaves into their own buckets, ready to feed the Gruffalo. When we met the Gruffalo, he decided if he was going to eat us or the food we prepared. Luckily, no children were consumed! He enjoyed his lunch and had a big sleep. (Unfortunately, due to the rain, we weren't able to take any pictures of the Gruffalo's lunch).
In the classroom, the children have enjoyed making dens for the animals from the story using magnetic shapes and big construction pieces. They have also used number knowledge to feed the Gruffalo bugs and play the snakes and ladders Gruffalo game. They have been painting snakes from the Gruffalo as well as making Gruffalo sculptures from playdough. They have also completed leaf-rubbing pictures and threading activities.
